Pure Machine Code

.Two mini video games events in one month OH NOES!
This ones very short notice. So short is it infarct that cant even get on kids rides without a adult

Pure Machine Code
Thursday 9th December 2010
The Star and Garter, 18-20 Fairfield Street, Manchester M1 2QF
http://www.puremachinecode.co.uk

Pure Machine Code has been running on a monthly basis, for six months now, and is a FREE event, organised by myself and my friend Andy (who is the licensee and manager of the Star & Garter). Both of us are ex games industry journalists, Retro Gamer subscribers, and general retro gaming enthusiasts. We started doing Pure Machine Code events to create a relaxed, atmospheric environment for our friends (and friends of friends) to drink beers and play games in.

We usually have the following setup on the night: a projector with either Gamecube or N64 four-player; four networked PCs, playing a selection of multiplayer games (Quake II, Unreal Tournament, AvP 2 et cetera); a SNES and PlayStation; a 'feature corner' that rotates consoles (including Dreamcast, Saturn, Megadrive, PC Engine et cetera); a couple of modded X-Boxes with tons of stuff on them; a stand-up multi arcade cabinet, and a couple of tabletop arcade cabinets. From time to time we also show films (King of Kong) or TV shows (Starcade or Games Master) on a TV by the bar. For the past four Pure Machine Code events we have also had a retro games-based pub quiz, with retro games-related prizes. The quiz also has a "Name That Tune" section

Will admit I know bugger all about this pub so expect some kind of report on it

Arcade Barn 2010

One I am hoping to get to my self

Copy pasted from Retro gamer fourm
So it gives me great pleasure to announce HISCORE - The Classic Arcade Game Tournament, which will be held at the
Arcade Barn in Exeter
On 19-20th March 2011.

The centrepiece of the event will be a Tournament played on ten games from the Barn's impressive collection, the names of which will remain secret until the day of the event and will be selected by Shaun and Aran at the venue. The tournament will be played using the tried and tested Funspot scoring mechanism.

The top three ranking competitors at the end of the weekend will receive prizes as follows:

1st Place: £100 plus trophy
2nd Place: £50
3rd Place: £25

Additionally, just like Funspot, we will be running two 'mystery game of the day' competitions (one each day obviously!) with their own prizes of £15 each.

The Arcade Barn has around 40 machines including such classics as Pac-Man, Gauntlet, Defender, Galaxian, Marble Madness and Dragon's Lair II so there will be plenty of chance to play other games as well as competing in the tournament. I also intend to get a couple of classic consoles set up for multiplayer gaming.

The venue is quite small so there will be just 40 tickets available at a cost of £15 each. I expect most of these to be snapped up quickly and am offering RG Forum members the opportunity to reserve a ticket - just PM me with your email address to be added to the list and as soon as the tickets are on sale you will be given first refusal before they go on general sale. You will be able to pay for your ticket by Paypal gift or cheque.

A website will be setup fairly soon with the tournament rules, directions to the venue, suggested accommodation and so on. I'll update this post when it is ready.

Llamasoft jolly (formally Retro Vision)

Hello All ...

Just to bring you all upto speed. Had a few emails of late so figured I'd post here to clarify the situation for RV2011.

Really not sure what is happenning with this right now, my world went from busy to crazy and even with the awesome backup from the now legendary Starship with Rob and Matt we all seem busy as mad things.

With that said, something will happen in 2011 ... even if we do a more relaxed Llamasoft Jolly, perhaps in the summer.

So, watch this space and when we know something we'll pass it along to all you guys :-)

Just for interest, what would you al prefer to have?

1) Full RV
2) A relaxed Llamasoft Jolly where we all bring somthing and chill out with beer?

Cheers

Markie and RV Crew
